How to play Last Man Standing football

Last Man Standing is the simplest football game there is: pick one club a week to win, survive longer than everyone else. Here are the rules in full, the way Clubhouse runs them across the Premier League, the EFL and the National League — free, with no stake.

What is Last Man Standing?

Last Man Standing — also called Last Man Standing football, LMS, or a survivor pool — is a knockout prediction game played over a season. Every round you choose one club you think will win. Get it right and you go through. Get it wrong and you are out, or you spend a life if your league has them.

The catch that makes it a game of skill rather than luck: you can only use each club once. Spend Manchester City in week one and they are gone for the rest of the run. Every good pick you make now is a pick you cannot make in April.

How to play, step by step

  1. 1Create a free accountOne account, no stake, no card details. Takes about thirty seconds.
  2. 2Pick a board or leagueJoin a global board for your division, or start a private league and share the join code with your mates.
  3. 3Choose one club a weekOpen the round, tap the club you think will win, and your pick locks to that fixture. Change it as often as you like until kick-off.
  4. 4Survive the roundA win takes you through. A draw or a defeat costs you a life, or your entry if you have none left.
  5. 5Pick again — but not the same clubUsed clubs are burned for the rest of the run, so the pool gets thinner every week. That is the whole game.

The rules in full

A win, and only a win

Your club has to win their match. A draw counts exactly the same as a defeat — there is no half credit. Most players go out to a draw, not a thrashing.

One club, once per run

Every club you pick joins your burn list and cannot be picked again in that run. If your burn list swallows the whole division, you take a bye and survive the round.

Lives

A life absorbs one bad result. Leagues can run with lives or without; with none, the first draw or defeat ends your entry.

Deadlines and locking

The round deadline is the first kick-off of the round, and each individual match closes at its own kick-off — so a Tuesday game is still pickable after Saturday's have gone. Until then you can change or clear your pick freely. Picks are revealed once the deadline passes.

Missed picks

With auto-pick on, the unused club with the highest modelled win probability is picked for you. With it off, a missed round counts as a bad result.

Postponements

Postponed or abandoned matches are voided. You survive the round and the club returns to your pool.

Points and tie-breaks

Survival decides the winner; points decide the bragging rights. You score one point per winning pick made while still alive. Level on points, the better pick accuracy ranks first.

New runs

When a run ends a fresh one starts, everyone gets a clean burn list, and any queued rule changes take effect. Being knocked out is never the end of your season.

Joining mid-run

You can join at any time. If a run is already under way you play for points and accuracy but cannot win that run — you are fully eligible from the next one.

How to win: five tactics that actually help

  1. Plan two or three rounds ahead. Look at the fixture list, not just this weekend. Know which strong home fixtures you are saving.
  2. Respect the draw. A dominant side away from home is a classic elimination. Home favourites against weak visitors are the safer currency.
  3. Do not burn your best clubs early. Early rounds have the widest choice, so use good-not-great picks and keep the elite names in reserve.
  4. Watch the rest of the field. When only a handful of players are left, matching the safe pick keeps you level; differing only helps if you are behind.
  5. Mind the cup weekends and midweek rounds. Rotation and fixture congestion turn banker picks into coin flips.

Last Man Standing FAQs

What is Last Man Standing in football?

Last Man Standing is a free football survivor game. Each round you pick one club you think will win their match. If your club wins you go through to the next round. A draw or a defeat costs you, and you can never pick the same club twice in a run. The last player still standing wins.

How do you play Last Man Standing football?

Create a free account, join a global board or a private league with a code, then pick one club from that round's fixtures before the deadline. Your pick locks to that specific kick-off. Once the deadline passes everyone's picks are revealed, results are settled automatically, and survivors move on to the next round.

Does a draw count as a win in Last Man Standing?

No. Only a win keeps you in. A draw counts the same as a defeat, which is why big favourites away from home are riskier than they look.

Can you pick the same team twice?

Not in the same run. Every club you use is added to your burn list and greyed out for the rest of that run. If you somehow burn through every club in the division, you take a bye and survive the round automatically.

How many lives do you get?

It depends on the league. A life absorbs one bad result: draw or lose and you spend a life instead of going out. Some leagues run with no lives at all, so the first bad result eliminates you. League owners choose the setting.

What happens if you forget to pick?

If auto-pick is on, the unused club with the highest modelled win probability is picked for you, which keeps you alive but is rarely the pick you would have made. If auto-pick is off, a missed deadline counts as a bad result.

What happens if a match is postponed?

Postponed and abandoned matches are voided. A void pick neither wins nor loses: you survive the round and the club goes back into your available pool.

How do you win Last Man Standing?

Survive longer than everyone else. Save the strongest home favourites for later rounds, avoid burning several good clubs early, check who else is still alive, and remember that the draw, not the loss, is what knocks most players out.

Is Clubhouse Last Man Standing free to play?

Yes. It is completely free, there is no stake and no entry fee, and no money can be won or lost. It covers the Premier League, the EFL and the National League divisions, and is open to over 18s in the UK.
